The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) endorsed Nate Shannon for Michigan’s 25th House District today.
“The Republican leadership in Lansing and D.C. has fought tooth and nail to make life harder for every day working people and rig the rules in favor of big businesses and CEOs,” said Council 25 President Lawrence A. Roehrig. “Nate has bold visions for Michigan where anyone that works hard for a living isn’t forced to choose between groceries or the electric bill, where all children have access to affordable higher education and vocational training, and where our seniors don’t have to worry about constant attacks on their pensions and healthcare and can retire with dignity.”
AFSCME is the nation’s largest and fastest growing public services employees union with more than 1.6 million working and retired members. With members in hundreds of different occupations, AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and prosperity, and opportunity for all working families.
“We are pleased to endorse Nate for State Representative,” said AFSCME Communications and Political Director Steven Rzeppa. “With years of teaching experience and his position on the Sterling Heights City Council, it is clear to us that Nate is committed to uplifting his community. We trust he will represent his constituents and our members well in Lansing.”
In addition to sitting on the Sterling Heights City Council, Shannon is a member of the Michigan League’s Elected Officials Academy and the Michigan Education Association. As State Representative, Shannon will work to make Michigan a state that provides opportunities for everyone to succeed.
“It is a privilege to have the support of AFSCME and its members,” Shannon said. “I’m running for the House because public service is calling and I am determined to create an economy that provides good-paying jobs with benefits for Michigan’s working families.”
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees joins the Michigan Education Association, the Sterling Heights Police Officers Association, Sterling Heights Fire Fighters 1557, Warren Fire Fighters Local 1383, Warren Police Officers Association, the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, State Rep.
