(Sterling Heights, MI) – Minutes before today’s deadline to file for office, Diane Accavitti withdrew from the race for the Democratic nomination for the 25th State House District. She also announced her support for Nate Shannon, leaving him unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Accavitti cited talks with numerous local officials as a key factor in her decision to leave the race.
“Nate is best positioned to win in November and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help him,” Accavitti said. “I’ll be making a decision in the near future about the best way I can serve my community going forward.”
Shannon is a member of the Sterling Heights City Council serving his second term. Accavitti’s endorsement adds to a growing list of support among local elected officials and progressive organizations.
“I’m incredibly thankful to have the support of Diane and am fully focused on winning in November,” Shannon said. “In my time on city council, I have been a fighter for working families. I look forward to continuing that work in Lansing on behalf of the citizens of Sterling Heights and Warren.”
